Why use a blog?
Many teachers wonder about the reasons to incorporate blogs into their lessons. The primary reason is that it is a writing tool. If you think of it as a journal entry, that is a start. Blogs can also be used for collaboration, when students may not be able to physically work together. Each group member can input his or her contribution to the topic or question they are working on, then combine their notes for a report. Some teachers use blogs for extended responses, so that students can see what other students are responding and comment on the responses. Blogs may also be used for peer feedback. If there is a concern about mean-spirited feedback or inappropriate responses, the blogs can be set up to require the teacher's approval before a posting is public. Feel free to add your comments or responses to this topic.
